Owner

Dr. Jeff Shepherd

Dr. Jeff Shepehrd is a Michigan State University graduate with a distinguished career in public service. He served as a Public Health Veterinarian (FSIS) and later as Assistant Director (APHIS) for the USDA. His experience in animal health, food safety, and regulatory oversight provides valuable insight and guidance to Bonz Beach Farms.

Founder

Gary Shepherd

Gary saw potential where others saw neglected farmland. Surrounded by maple trees and driven by a lifelong interest in maple syrup, he got to work. Known for his outgoing nature and willingness to help others, Gary is the kind of neighbor everyone hopes to have.

Operations Manager

Dave Morgan

Dave is a lifelong Onaway resident and retired lineman whose family land is now part of the farm and syrup operation. He helps with everything from weeding and watering to harvesting vegetables and washing lettuce. During syrup season, Dave ensures the syrup reaches the proper sugar content—because it isn’t syrup until Dave says it is.

Quality Control & Marketing

Sue Madden

Sue spent 39 years teaching biology and physical science and is now an essential part of Bonz Beach Farms. She helps with gardening, maple syrup production, labeling, packaging, and keeps everything clean, organized, and visually appealing. Sue also manages the farm’s Facebook page and website, sells at the Rogers City Market, and plays a key role during maple season.

Marketing

Kyle Ackerman

Kyle Ackerman leads marketing and sales at Bonz Beach Farms, connecting customers with the farm’s maple syrup and fresh produce. He focuses on clear communication, local outreach, and building long-term relationships that help the farm grow while staying rooted in the community.

Senior Farmhand

Stevie

Stevie is Bonz Beach Farms’ senior farmhand and morale officer. Always on duty, she supervises daily operations, greets visitors (unhappily), and ensures no snack goes uninspected. Her experience, loyalty, and unmatched work ethic make her an essential (and beloved) member of the crew.

Jefe

Jefe is Bonz Beach Farms’ extremely happy & full-time farm ambassador. Known for his endless enthusiasm and friendly nature, Jefe welcomes everyone with a wagging tail and keeps spirits high across the farm. His joy is contagious, and he’s always ready to brighten the day.
