Community Heroes Collection Gives $5 Back Per Bottle of Pure Maple Syrup

Community Heroes Collection: One Bottle. One Local Cause. $5 Given Back.

Some of the most important people in our community don't ask for recognition.

They show up when we need help, keep our children learning, care for our neighbors, and make Onaway a better place to call home.

We wanted to create something that celebrates them while making it easy for the rest of us to give back.

That's how our Community Heroes Collection came to life.

Each bottle is filled with 16 fluid ounces of pure Michigan maple syrup from Bonz Beach Farms and packaged in a collectible glass oval bottle.

Each bottle sells for $20, and $5 from every bottle purchased goes toward the specific local organization or service featured on its label.

That's a full 25% of the bottle's purchase price directed toward a local cause.

You get the maple syrup. Our community gets the support.

And now we're inviting the community to help design the 2027 Community Heroes labels.

Five Bottles. Five Causes. Your Choice.

Each label represents a different part of our community.

The $5 goes toward the cause represented by the bottle you purchase. It is not divided among all five organizations.

1. Onaway Area Fire Department

Our firefighters answer the call when homes, businesses, land, and lives are at risk.

Purchases of the Fire Department edition direct $5 per bottle to the Onaway Area Fire Department to support local fire services.

2. Onaway Area Ambulance Service

When someone is sick or hurt, minutes matter.

Purchases of the Ambulance & EMT edition direct $5 per bottle to the Onaway Area Ambulance Service, which provides emergency medical response and transport for Onaway and surrounding communities.

3. Presque Isle County Council on Aging

Our older neighbors helped build the community we enjoy today.

Purchases of the Council on Aging edition direct $5 per bottle to the Presque Isle County Council on Aging (PICCOA).

This organization serves area seniors through programs including transportation, meals, and in-home support.

Please note: Our original bottle artwork says "Commission on Aging." The organization's correct name is Presque Isle County Council on Aging. This is the intended beneficiary.

4. Onaway Area Community Schools

Our schools help shape the next generation of neighbors, workers, leaders, and families.

Purchases of the Onaway Schools edition direct $5 per bottle to Onaway Area Community Schools, our local public school district.

5. Onaway Law Enforcement — Presque Isle County Sheriff's Office Patrol Contract

> This one deserves a little extra explanation.

The City of Onaway does not currently operate a separate municipal police department.

Instead, the city pays the Presque Isle County Sheriff's Office for local law-enforcement services under a contract.

So while our original bottle artwork says "Onaway Police Department," the donation is not going to a separate city police department.

The $5 from each Law Enforcement edition will go to the City of Onaway, designated to help offset the city's cost of its contracted patrol services with the Presque Isle County Sheriff's Office.

That means this bottle helps support the actual police protection arrangement serving Onaway residents.

We want to be absolutely clear about where the money is going.

How Does the $5 Giveback Work?

The process is straightforward:

  1. Choose a cause. Pick the bottle featuring the community service or organization you want to support.

  2. Purchase your syrup for $20. Each collectible glass bottle contains 16 fl oz (473 mL) of pure Michigan maple syrup.

  3. We set aside $5 for that cause. The amount is fixed per bottle sold—not just a percentage of whatever profit remains.

  4. Your bottle counts for the cause on its label. Buy three Fire Department bottles, for example, and $15 is directed toward that department. Buy one of each of the five designs, and $25 total is directed across the five causes.

Bonz Beach Farms will track bottles sold for each cause separately so that the amounts can be accounted for.

We also intend to share updates about the collection's community impact.

This is a product purchase with a giveback component, not a direct charitable donation made by the customer.

You're purchasing maple syrup, and Bonz Beach Farms is committing $5 from each Community Heroes bottle sale to its named cause.

Introducing Our 2027 Community Label Design Contest!

These bottles should look and feel like they belong to the people of our community.

Because they do.

Starting with the 2027 collection, we want community members to have a hand in creating the artwork.

And we hope to make it an annual tradition, with new labels and new artists celebrated every year.

If you're an artist, a student, a graphic designer, or simply someone with a creative idea, we want to hear from you!

You don't have to be a professional.

Hand-drawn artwork, paintings, and digital designs are all welcome as starting concepts.

What Can You Design?

Submit an idea for any one—or more—of these five 2027 label themes:

  • Onaway Area Fire Department
  • Onaway Area Ambulance Service / EMTs
  • Presque Isle County Council on Aging
  • Onaway Area Community Schools
  • Onaway Law Enforcement / Sheriff's Patrol Services

We'd love to see artwork that tells a genuine local story: the people, places, service, and spirit of Onaway and Presque Isle County.

We want the collection to feel distinctly Northern Michigan.

There's no purchase required to participate.

We're welcoming design ideas now. We'll announce the final entry deadline, selection process, production specifications, and any prizes or recognition details before selections are made.

Selected concepts will need to work on our bottle labels, so we may collaborate with their creators to adapt the artwork for printing and ensure every organization is named correctly.

Please submit original work you have the right to share. Any permission needed for commercial bottle-label use will be agreed upon before artwork is printed.

Our hope is that each year, when someone picks up a Community Heroes bottle, they'll see not only a worthy cause but also the creativity of someone connected to this community.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a Community Heroes bottle cost?

$20 for a 16-fluid-ounce glass oval bottle of pure Michigan maple syrup.

How much actually goes to the organization?

Exactly $5 per bottle sold, regardless of the amount of profit Bonz Beach Farms makes on that bottle.

Does my $5 get split among all five causes?

No. The full $5 is directed toward the specific cause featured on the bottle you buy.

Can I support more than one organization?

Absolutely. Choose any combination of labels. Each bottle counts for its own cause.

Is there really an Onaway Police Department?

Not as a separate department under the city's current patrol arrangement.

The City of Onaway contracts with the Presque Isle County Sheriff's Office. Money from the law-enforcement edition is intended for the city's patrol-contract bill, not for a separate police department.

Why does the senior-services label say "Commission on Aging"?

That wording appears on an early label.

The correct beneficiary is the Presque Isle County Council on Aging (PICCOA). We are clarifying that publicly and will use the correct name in future artwork.

Is this a donation I can claim on my taxes?

It is a purchase of maple syrup, not a donation made directly by you to an organization. Bonz Beach Farms does not provide a charitable-donation receipt for the $5 giveback.

Do I have to be a professional designer to enter the 2027 contest?

No! We welcome ideas from community members of all ages and skill levels.

A sketch or hand-drawn concept is a great place to start.

Do I have to purchase syrup to participate in the design contest?

No. Buying a bottle is not an entry requirement and does not affect design selection.

Will every submitted design appear on a bottle?

No. The goal is to select artwork for the five 2027 cause editions, but submitting a design does not guarantee it will be printed.

Final selection details will be shared as part of the contest rules.

Will the labels change again after 2027?

That's the plan!

We want fresh community participation and new collectible label artwork every year.

Where can I purchase the collection or ask a question?

A Little Syrup Can Do a Lot of Good

Firefighters. Paramedics and EMTs. Sheriff's deputies serving our city. Teachers and school staff. The neighbors helping our seniors stay connected and independent.

These are the people and services that make a small town work.

We can't think of a better way to celebrate them than to turn something we make right here at Bonz Beach Farms into something that gives back right here at home.

Choose your Community Hero. Enjoy your maple syrup. Give $5 back.

And if you've got an idea for the 2027 label designs, we'd love to see it.
